Planning your visit

Everything below is taken from the museum’s own ticketing website. Hours and admission policies are set by the Grand Egyptian Museum and can change, so please confirm on the official site before you travel.

Opening hours

  • Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. GEM complex 8:30 to 19:00. Galleries 9:00 to 18:00.
  • Saturday and Wednesday. GEM complex 8:30 to 22:00. Galleries 9:00 to 21:00.
  • Last entry is one hour before the galleries close.

What admission includes

A standard admission ticket covers the Tutankhamun Galleries, the Main Galleries, the Grand Hall, the Grand Stairs, the Khufu Boats Museum, the commercial area and the exterior gardens.

Free admission and discounts

Valid identification is required to claim any concession, and a guided tour supplement may still be payable at the ticket office.

  • Free all week: children under six, visitors with disabilities, Egyptian tour guides accompanying a group, and members of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
  • Free except Fridays and public holidays: Egyptian students, faculty members and support staff of the faculties of Antiquities at public universities.
  • Free except weekends and public holidays: Egyptian tour guides, Egyptian military veterans, family members of Egyptian martyrs, and employees of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
